What Is a Representative Payee?

A representative payee is an individual or organization authorized by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to receive and manage Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits on behalf of someone who needs assistance managing their finances.

Capstone Behavioral Healthcare serves as a representative payee for clients who, due to their mental health condition or other challenges, need assistance ensuring their benefits are used for their basic needs and well-being.

What We Do

As your representative payee, Capstone:

• Receives your monthly Social Security or SSI payment on your behalf
• Pays your rent, utilities, and other essential bills
• Works with you to create and maintain a monthly budget
• Provides you with a regular allowance for personal expenses
• Keeps records of all income and expenditures as required by the SSA
• Reports any changes in your circumstances to the SSA

Your Rights

As a beneficiary, you have rights under the SSA’s representative payee program. Capstone is committed to acting in your best interest at all times and will keep you informed about how your money is being managed.
